PelletB testing
Most departments require a passing score for the PelletB test. Some departments require different scores, but it's a good rule of thumb to at least score a 39. Many agencies will offer the testing themselves, but you can take it yourself at TheAcademy.ca.gov. You can only take it once in a 30-day period. Click here to see next PelletB testing dates.
Am I physically ready?
Some departments have different physical agility exams. A common theme across many departments include an obstacle course, 165lb dummy body drag, 6ft chain link fence climb, 6ft solid wall climb, 500 yard sprint, and 1.5 mile run (scored separately).

What should I wear to the PelletB testing?
Always wear business professional clothing! Think banker or lawyer. You need to make a good impression from the start. Also called "business formal," it means wear a suit jacket, collared shirt, tie, pants, and dress shoes. Click here for an example.
What's the basic process from civilian to police officer?
Apply online, written test, physical test, interviews, conditional job offer, PHS 2-251 form, background check, job offer, 6-mo academy, FTO for 10-18 weeks, then solo officer!
I'm a police officer in another state. Do I still have to go to the academy?
Yes. Every CA police agency is governed by California POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) which requires graduation from a POST-approved police academy.
